ARGH...overheating...

Ok, my 93 aaz td is in my wife hands an hour away..and she says its overheating...temp light on dash is flashing...and up to 110 on the guage.....

it ran perfect yesterday....no problems...anyway she topped up the resovoir and says its leaking out the side nearest the fender....and it starts heating up again...

whats a common problem for these cars that can happen just like that with no warning.....

sigh, why the car has every issue in the book when my wife has it, but works perfectly when i use it is beyond me......

i think my car seriousky hates my wife.....

shes trying to start it...all she gets is the stock alarm sound.....grr...then finally it starts and the battery light stays on....did i mention the oil light is flashing.....

sigh....i really have no idea what is going on with it.....

i had her buy some premix antifreeze and oil.....topped them both up...honestly its the only thing i can think of.....

It sort of sounds like she is killing your car.
On average, women don't stop - or call - until its too late.

Wonder if she could be more specific for you about where the coolant is leaking/escaping ? Is it a cracked reservoir/globe ?

Maybe she should park and wait for you or get a motel room ?

belt snapped.. not turning waterpump and got hot enough to fry things and oil light on due to that..

Ya right on the moneyI went and picked her up..... First thing I saw was no belt... Sigh

She said it was idling fine and the temp gauge was ok.... Then the lights turned off and radio slowly died ... Then the engine shut off....did she blow the motor? I'm going tomorrow to get it and put a new belt in

if she drove it long enough for the batt to go dead due to no belt.. i would not be hopefull... think abt it.. how long can a diesel run when the alt fails.. i know i can get a good week if i do not run lights so on..

so i suggest be prepaired to tow it..

Well she did have all the lights and radio on

When my belt snapped, it was -15C. Less than half a mile after the charge light came on (ie. belt snapped and the waterpump had stopped) the coolant light came on as ALL the coolant blew out. The battery will last a LOT longer than half a mile, so I wouldn't get your hopes up much.
I nearly died of hypothermia waiting for the fixers to turn up.

prolly the plastic flange on the side of the head leaking like a sieve..

or the plastic coolant bubble..

or a heater hose..

or anything really..

hopefully she DIDNT burn it down.. women usually DONT stop until the car forces them to (seized engine)

that is how i know abt the ac kill thermo switch in the neck off the head... a guy who's wife did this before had the one shop i work at use that switch to run the fuel pump wiire thru it.. so when it got too hot the engine would shut off automatically..

very simple idea.. kinda late now though..

My husband and mechanic were quite proud that when I busted the oil pan on my NB, I stopped right away and turned off the car. No damage whatsoever. A lot of people (guys too!) wait until the oil pressure light comes on and by then its too late.

Agreeing with Jess here, its not women that are the problem.. it is ignorant people who do not care to think things through. Male or Female.

In my time, i have met PLENTY of people who drove their cars to the graveyard because of something so small and easliy overlooked.

I drive an 84 1.6 n/a so there is always something that needs my attention under the hood lol, i have the hood open at least once a day if not more. And every time I check all four fluids, wiring, and give the hoses a good grope.

I have taught the Warden (aka my gf lmao) to be way more observant then she was when we met and because of this her car is still around after blowing a HG twice, an alt belt, oil pump, and various coolant tubes popping.

Small noises, different rpm changes, lights, smoke, smells.. They all tell a different story.




Two separate occasions, her knowledge of shiit has come in handy when she was stuck on the side of the road. First picture, blown heater core clamped off with vice grips and pliers. Second pic another blown hose. remove rad cap pressure and tape and tie the hose. made it home 80kms!

i said no bad towards women.. i only spoke of a how to prevent due to guys wife issue of over heat..

you know newer vws have a big spot between speedo/tach that say no oil pressure says TURN CAR OFF??? and i know a guy who kept going... LOL... i also know a guy who WORKED on cars for 7 years or so thru high school and collage who blew up his 1.8t as he felt the same light did not pertain to him...

so lots of idiots fail to shut it off in bad times...

i just find it funny anytime she has car it has issues.. IMO she dislikes car and trying to kill it...

your right, only the ignorant people are like that (both male and female)

my mom is one of those people who catches things before they get bad.. but ive known ALOT of girls that have killed their cars from pure ignorance..

one bottomed out her car, ripped off the oil pan, and then called me, and wondered why her car was knocking, and her oil light was on?
