My golf cranks too slow so I'm looking at tougher starters. Under '01 jetta TDI automatic, both are 2kw but one has 9 teeth and the other 10 teeth.......
Also I assume the 3rd bolt hole lines up with the front engine mount?
Thanks
Thanks I knew it should be auto but when looking on rockauto I missed that it said 10 teeth for the manual trans starter and 9 for the auto starter.
They also have a starter for mk1 mk2 that doesn't use the long shaft into the bellhousing. And it has planetary gears and such.
Seems like its about 20-25 above regular starter.
I don't know technicalities but here is a copy and paste from a guy on this forum that sold me one. I love it, it seems to spin the car over faster and one day I was doing a ton of restarts without charging and at the end of the day my battery read 65% and it was still spinning the car over just as fast. Now I can't count the revolutions when it spins over

the cars they would come on would be a 2000 to 2003 jetta/golf/beetle TDI automatic with the 01M trans (the only auto offered from 2000 to 2003 in the TDI)
Just did this on my 85. Wow what a difference. Cranks much faster, and im using a starter from an auto TDI with at least 150k on it.

I agree. I upgraded all my grounds on my car and added a couple extra to starter and alternator as well and its a done deal on my 85 jetta td, hot or cold

Kind of nice to not have to deal with labored starting or chugging on these cars, which I'm sure allot has to do with maintenence.
I got a 84 jetta right now that starts real well, probably due to health of the engine, but it has a big ass clunky sounding starter that I'm afraid will go at any time. Once I fix it up to sell I will get another starter it and every vw I put back on the road.
