Good, flexible, clear tubing for fuel lines.
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:27:05 am »
I was just wondering what people were using for their clear fuel lines. I have some fuel rated clear lines in my car right now and they are beginning to get hard and not movable anymore.

I would like to retain the clear lines throughout the engine bay, as I like to see what is what.

So, what are YOU using :).

I use transparent polyurethane fuel line from motorcycle shops. Holds up good when running bio fuels as well.

Libby found a great supplier of Clear Fuel Grade Tygon (friendly prices) a while back.
I had bookmarked the thread - and its gone.
Guess he originated the thread - and it went with him.

Seems like it was in Arizona.
Car Masters / Auto Masters / McCarMasters AutoMcMasters ..... or something like that. They had a website.

Some of it you had to buy certain footage.
I bought into some with him on the injector return hose size.
VERY VERY TOP NOTCH.

But i don't have much left of it anymore.

==========================

I had been using translucent yellow tygon on injector returns, purchased from small engine repair shop locally. The clear from Libby's place seems even higher grade - and its clear. And it was less expensive too.  ;D

Meant to place an order for fuel supply/return sizes and never got around to it. Libby bought those sizes and had use for the amount ordered. He loved the stuff too. So its good.

Been using cheap clear tubing from Tractor Supply / Lowes Hardware on fuel supply & return on several cars. Some of it is going on 3 years and it gets rather stiff in Winter now. In case anyone is reading - it won't suffice on injector returns - but does well enough on larger hoses.

Later or sooner, i want to get on the ball and refind that supplier and get the better stuff.

wow, I have never heard of that mcmaster website before! Where have I been living!?

For future reference in this thread, what are the needed fuel line sizes? What are the barbs on the fuel filter and injection pump for the feed and return line? the size is 7mm or 8mm for the return lines between injectors isnt it?

I'm pretty sure I used 1/8" for the small return lines.
Used to be Mcmaster was cheaper than Greaseworks, but not true anymore. So, I'll also suggest Greaseworks for viton (but that doesn't answer the original question, though).

Thanks for hooking us back up with the link Luckypabst.

We were using Tygon, not Viton.
They had great Tygon prices that i couldn't beat anywhere.
But that was probably over a year ago.

Injector returns are universal... 1/8" ID
And get the thick wall stuff

On everything else, i'd recommend each person take their own measurements. So many variables and mismatch / hodgepodge.

The Tygon has great stretch and grip ability.
As in practically no clamps were even needed - according to Libby.

Some folks will want Viton
if they intend to run Heated WVO

I did everything, but later pulled the injector jumpers off.  They didn't fill up and I thought it looked stupid.

I think I used 1/4" & 5/16".  The stuff I used was more rigid like the factory stuff. I got everything from mcmaster.com.

Yup. I was also suggesting Mcmaster as a source of Viton for folks that like its broad fuel compatibility. I don't know much about Tygon.

ToddA1  Did you run that line all the way back to the tank? I have been looking for a suitable replacement, but didn't want to use the Tygon as I figured it could get kinked as it is very flexible. Also a run of it that long that I couldn't see I would wonder if it would collapse on itself from suction and I wouldn't ever find it.

Tygon should have the same broad fuel compatability as the viton. I could be wrong, but have heard it is the same stuff with a different brand name, or real close to the same stuff.

No.  If you look to the left of the air box, you can see some black braided line I used as a coupler.  I merged to the clear with some nylon barbs.

Haha...  1/0 ga.  Incredibly flexible, too.  Never worked with anything like it, before.
