hey guys my vacuum pump is not working
do i just need to replace the Diaphram?
where can i get a rebuilt kit?
thanks
http://www.autohausaz.com Has several and they are pretty quick with the shipping. Best buy two.
That is what I just did about a month ago. Seems they don't last more than 6 mths. I now have both a spare pump and the kit to go in it. Next time I find I am brakeless the fix will take but 5 mins. Then repair the pump later.
the old style had the diaphram. The newer style has vanes. I haven't found a kit for the vane style, but just as OR said autohaus is good for that stuff.
AutohausAZ takes about 5-7 business days to get parts to Greensboro, Randleman or Asheboro NC. Probably about the same for Charlotte too.
Go to a CarQuest Auto Parts store.
They now own WorldPac, and there is a WorldPac hub in Raleigh.
Might be a hub in Charlotte too.
You'll have the part next day - 98% of time.
You might need to tell them to use WorldPac LookUp (software is already in their system) because some of the counter clerks are newer and less knowledgable. And have never done that / clueless.
If they just use their general Cquest look up - probably will say they cant get it. So remember the name WorldPac, and don't take no for an answer.
Basically all the same stuff as AutohausAZ and eGermanparts.com(RIP)
Use the year model of the engine to look up part number.
Its about a $10 kit.
Look it up on AutohausAZ, and ask CQ to price match or get close in case they quote you full retail. I had a hookup with my local CQuest for a while where they would meet or beat Ahaus. Then manager went uncool on me - wimping out because they want to see 150% or + profit margin anytime they pull sales on a spot check at regional level. His excuse.
Still use them on rare ocassion if i'm in a pinch.
Come to think of it I didn't use AZ for the last couple of diaphrams. I used the local O'Reilys. I think they did the same look up you describe because he had to go to a different machine to do it. The kit was 9.95 and it came in about 4 days.
Prior to that, one of the forum gents here was theman and sold me one for much less. I think my pump is worn weird and is just hard on them. But I am more than ready next time.
what pump do you have? vane pumps dont offer a rebuild kit..
and a rebuild kit for a diaphragm rebuild kit wont work in a vane pump..
He put an mk1 Dzl engine into an mk2 gasser.
"should" have the old miserable diaphragm style vac pump.

Seems that was the way he phrased the question. Lead me to believe it was the old not new style vane pump.

X2 on worldpac, I'm part time at carquest and get to use worldpac often. They seem to really support old vw's so I'm buy quite a bit of stuff from there.

Yessir WorldPac is Boss.
How far away is your WPac hub ?
Do you get the WPac parts the next day ?

Can't remember where they come from but I know there's at least two places we get stuff from in the lower 48. We usually get it second day.
