WTB 1.6 cylinder NA
« on: January 17, 2012, 08:10:35 pm »
I'm in desperate need of a good diesel cylinder head.  Failing that
does anyone have a 1.6 or 1.9 for sale at a reasonable price?  I'm
not averse to turbo either if the price is right.  I have two dead vws
both w cylinder head problems so I'm ready to buy. Thanks
Peter

I wonder what it would cost to ship one?  Won't fit in a priority mail flat rate box I don't think.

92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

what kind of cylinder head problems? mind elaborating?

would be kinda dumb to replace both heads if they could be repaired..

The head I need is hydraulic w 12mm bolts.  The damage to one head is repairable, bent valves basically.
The damage to the second head is more extensive, I had a bad injector which eroded away about 180
degrees of the sealing washer seat under the injector.  I suppose a good welder and a knowledgeable
machine shop could repair this but I think it would be probably easier and cheaper to just get a good
used head.  If I'm wrong in that assessment I'm open to suggestions and ideas. Thanks.

the guy in montclair has complete na engines for like 700-800 probably should go see him. just make sure you get a warranty and pull the valve cover off before you buy it make sure it's not all sludgy.

the guy's name is thomas. I got an engine off him a few years ago when I was in the area fixing up a rabbit and it turned out to be a bag of sheet. but he was cool about it, just make sure you get a good warranty from him. he is fair on the 1.6 na engines but his td engines are pricey. I can ship you a good 1.9 td for about half what he'll charge you for one.
