Well I was checking the oil level on the 1.6 NA today and the little clip that keeps the rubber part of the oil dipstick came loose. I can't seem to apply anything to the oily shaft to secure the rubber head. Any place I can get a new dipstick? I have so much air in the bottom end of this engine that I think the dip stick will come right out of the tube if it isn't squeezed in to it by the rubber top. Any suggestions where to get a new stick or a repair to the top end of the current stick? Thanks. DAS
I did think of the JB solution but getting it clean enough after 30 years of being soaked with oil had me drop that option. I thought of low temp solutions like rosin core solder and a soldering pencil but again getting it to stick requires clean up. I will hit the link provided and see what I can do there. Right now it isn't a problem until I need to determine the oil level. Then I have to pull the stick and with two hands try and keep the stopper and stick at their placement and pull it out with the other. Not always sure one quart low means one or half low. I will keep on it. DAS Edit, Dang dipstick above it for 85 and newer. Mine is an 81 1.6 NA. Keep looking
Yep. How's next weekend look for you? I have to overweekend in your favorite city again and I might have the time to drive on over to the coast. Like I don't know what that is like.Shall I pack the Zender kit front end I didn't use? Or was the issue on that is that it wouldn't fit your car anyway?
