Where is the vacuum feed line for the heater on a mk2?

ok, so like the title states, im looking for the vacuum line for my heater controls. i know i need to hook vacuum to the switch to make it work, but i dont know where the vacuum line is, as it never had one, and the heater box has never worked since i got the car..

anyways, what line supplies vacuum to the selector switch?

Was it an AC car? If not I do believe she be cable run. However if it is, I think the feed comes through the middle of the firewall.. or the raintray. On my mk1 it was raintray up top, and mk3 it was through the firewall near the brake booster. Obviously vacuum is taken from the vacuum pump stalk.

Can't you just run a new one off the tee on the brake booter/vac pump?  I have one of those yellow many plug setups where you have to cut the end and drill out the extra to get vac out of it.  Might help to put on a small reservoir of its own but I haven't really noticed running out of vacuum on any car with vac assisted accessories.

The switch in my car did not have a vac line going to it and it was a/c. Just a cable as 8v said. The vac line went down to the servo deals to open and close them. On your heater box it should be the only deal without one. That is how I found where mine went.

your car is a factory diesel.. mine, not soo much.. the diesels got cable controlled heaters. the gassers had vacuum.

and all non-a/c cars had cable controlled heaters..

gotta remember, my car used to be digifizz with a/c, so its setup that way..

and thank you guys for the responses, but i dug around a little last night, and found the vacuum line. it was wrapped up in the wiring harness.. hooked it to the vacuum manifold on the vac pump..

But does it work now?  I used to work in an A/C retrofit shop and people would come in all the time with the "my A/C doesn't work" line.  At that time most cars still had a bench seat in them so I would fire it up and stick my head on the floor by the accelerator and generally hear the hissing of a hose off the damper door.  Pop it on and measure the air temp with the thermometer.  Show the results to the customer and look like a hero in less than 15 minutes. 

But yours contols the defroster and heater stuff as well is what you are saying?

is what im saying, is that EVERYTHING is vacuum controlled on a gasser mk2 with a/c...

the temperature selector may be cable operated, but everything else is operated by vacuum..

none of this applies to mk1 cars..

mk2 gassers are weird ducks.. every one ive ever seen had vac heater.. my 85 GTI, my 92 wolfy GLI, and my 92 diesel GLI all have vacuum operated heater boxes..

mk2 with ac should be vac... never seen one thats not.. they go into the vac pump to pull vac for the dash vents...

 I was going to say that. I remember doing one on an '85 diesel with AC and it was right behind the intake and comes through in a small space behind the heater box.
Took 2 people to push it through and grab it.

not really.. you either get vacuum or cable controlled..

is your gf's car a/c equipped? if not, then thats why its cable controlled..
