Bumper assembly info.
« on: December 27, 2011, 07:01:10 pm »
My car was on the lift today, and the quote I got was;" With all this rust, I hope he doesn't get into an accident".

Does anyone here have any schematics on the front bumper assembly for a 1989 Jetta? Guess I'll have to buy some parts for this. Google has not been too sucessful.

Again, many thanks in advance.

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

ahhhhh bumper cake to remove.. its got 2 verticle bolts per side and a small 8mm bolt horizontal hidden by grill on each side..

the other 2 verticle (one per side and really short) bolts hold the core support/front mount in place when bumper off..

that help??

the verticle ones go into the frame horns..

now to compair them to euro bumpers... you can drill 2" holes in them and still have more metal then euro ones.. so guy hatin on you...

Every little bit helps, thanks. I haven't seen it, but my Boss (who works at the shop p/t) had the car put on the lift was told by the mechanic working on it what was quoted above. So why not come to the experts and get at least some info? I will find out more Thursday and will have some more info. But some parts are really not that expensive (for now).

I'll find out Thursday. If it is the part I'm thinking of, it's about 60 bucks.

My apologies to all who replied. I just got the call and it was a misunderstanding. It seems the floorboard under the driver's seat is rotted out, and bumpers are fine. So, if anyone in the NYC area can do quicky welding repairs, or know anyone who does, please let me know.

Again, my apologies. But I try to get a jump on the things I may need when I hear about them.

Googling all I could find was 'top banana' for the floor pans.

Any experts on here have any other links?

Again, many thanks....

This is why I love this site. I saw that diamond plate floor, and along with his muffler. (and amazed a guy who can do it was still criticized) My old mechanic who sold his business still keeps busy doing spot work and fabricating custome parts for antiques. No doubt he will figure something out. But I'm curious, is there a crossmember that the seat rails attach to? Didn't really see anything in the site I found.

Thanks again.

No, it attaches directly to the floor.  The pics in here should help
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4823370-Project-Jetta/page3 I know it's a mk1 but it's basically the same

Forgive me for my ignorance and lack of skills, but if you can look at the link below, the whole floor pan they show has no crossmember as shown in photos 7,8,9. You know I NEVER doubt you. Tyler. So if I am missing something, no doubt you or someone else will correct it. I would like this done before I drive across Country with it, but I may be stopping in Hamilton to get that Flyer wheel (only guy to pm me on whoretex), so I can at least buy you that beer or 5 I promised..

Waiting to be corrected and/or informed.

Stay safe, stay well. Happy New Year. Jimmy.

Oh that piece. Yes you are right, it is missing on the new parts. I'm assuming they want you to reuse yours or buy a replacement. The new piece looks to also be missing the actual seat rails. To be clear, this is the piece we are talking about right? http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb7479018/p4pb7479018.jpg
http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb7479022/p4pb7479022.jpg

It's probably missing this piece as well

I'm a mere hour and 9 minutes from Hamilton.  :)

It is the piece that runs from door to door. I ASSume the seat connects to that. Under the E-Brake and behind the shifter.

What's an hour and 9 minutes when you have 6 weeks vacation?  :)
