Needed 5spd trans for 85 golf diesel

Just picked up an 85 golf, was told that 5th gear was out of the tranny but when i got it running in nuetral it sounds like marbles are sloppping around in the trans case. I. Eed this as a daily driver so any decent 5 speed considered ... Current is an ach... Thanks for your time

you can get a decent 5 speed out of 85-88 golfs and jettas.. ACN is the code.

FF too old? the later mk1 trannies have the 3 holes for the rear mount.. even my 4A has provisions for both mk1 and mk2 mounts..

correct.. 84ish 020 started the 3 holes... ff was used till 82ish i beleive.. so i will not say a ff has them... ive never seen one...

84 gti/gli close gear ratio seemed to have the 3 holes... but in all else.. the op now knows to ask of said 3 holes..

Thanks for all the discussion guys. I have an FF trans in the back yard i'll have to check that out just in case.
Any estimates on price and shipping for that 4s if you will part with it??

I don't think the FF fits actually. I just examined it today. Go with ILIKEVWDIESEL's tranny.

All of the 020 trans will work with some mods. The ones without the 3 holes you can drill the holes. The ones with the 7/8 input shaft need a new clutch that works with the 7/8 instead of ours which is 3/4 IIRC, I maybe a 1/16" off but you get the idea.
