I am just checking the options. I have a 12mm pump that could be sent to people to make it work. I have 2 aaz engines that are all mine. So pistons and head...and NO PRECUPS.
If I could do it under 1,000.00 I would do it tomorrow. If I can do it under 2,000.00 I would think about it. If it would be over 2,000.00 I think I wouldn't do it for a long time.

well thats why i added to your shoppin list there..
head ok.. injectors/holddowns.. and hard lines..
the glowplug harness can be goten new... but $$ and a old used set would be best.. unlike idi.. glows for maybe 2-3 sec.. when its cold.. no glow at all over 50*f..

I would go ahu over 1z on the head as i have heard rumors the valves for the 1z(ahu and 1z have diff dia valve stems) are getting harder to find=more $$! They aren't cheap in either flavor though! All time and place though, just keep looking. I have an ahu i got for 200 complete longblock with most acc, just no turbo or pump!

I may just buy that longblock from you. Does it have the injection lines? I just spent 6 grand on a TDI complete car, so the wife is now an obstacle to buy stuff around. If you can hold it I would definately take it in 2012 sometime.

Sorry, somehow the way i phrased that came out wrong, i didn't want to sell it,I was merely using it as an example the deals still around if you look here and there! that baby is getting new stem seals and a mtdi pump and going in a mk1 i have. Here is a high mileage one that i saw on tdi(no affiliation) today, you may be able to get it complete based on how it looks like he's parting it.

I have a complete 99 AHU with 180k mi. ran good but turbo has play for sure. 850 crated and dropped off at terminal for shipping. Should be around 125-150 for shipping to Cleveland area.

I just want the head and pistons. Cleveland is around 2 hours from where I live, so it would have to be closer than that for 150.00 IMHO.

the different valve size issue is a moot point... id do new guids and move up to the smaller ones.. thats easy peasy.. just need the later keepers/valve caps.. those not too hard to find..
next 1z/ahu is differen then alh in last link... but we should know this...

Agree completely if your planning on redoing head using all new valves and guides, but on a budget buying decent valves and guides to upgrade a head can get expensive fast. Regardless the difference should be noted as it could add additional expense down the road! Too often people say they are exactly the same and its not true!

well out of experiance.. with a unknown head.. how do you now they did not hit something when the po had it? i sold a 16v head many many years ago.. 01ish.. that i did a valve job and all on... new guy got it.. 1k later valve head sittin in piston.. no idea why or how... i felt like crap.. i actually drove to nc and bought the car...
with his luck... new valves/guids are a must.. this way its known something cannot break due to the po.. and the valves/guids are not bad in price.. cheaper then finding head #2...
