Cross Country trip

For a little "jingley" they will do about any job not having to do with electricity or Sunday, if it is in their line of work. To them sewing is sewing. The issues are you have to work with their pace and schedule, give them specific instructions of what is needing done, and most don't have telephones...depends which "sect" of Amish they are. Some Amish are more Amish than other Amish if you know what I mean. I have a customer, business name Woodland Harness, that has several sewing machines and is 1 mile from my house, no phone, but I could talk to him. You would just have to know exactly what you wanted done and he would do it. I had him sew a metal zipper on one of the wife's boots...they don't have zippers so that is a big deal for them, but the point is they will do it if they can.

Well, no zippers on a Recaro seat, so that helps. If I could get them redone in leather (2 Recaro's out of a 1990 + Golf, I was told), and a bench seat. How's their carpeting tricks?

If you tell them and show them what you want they can do it. He makes saddles and bridles out of leather so that shouldn't be an issue. As for carpet, I don't know, but I am sure if it is fitting and sewing they would do it and do it well.

Gotta agree with you there, their perfection and pride always shows.. Guess if worse came to worse, I could buy the material and let him install it, or buy a kit for $150 and ship it there.  Thanks.

Yeah they can order and do things, but I found it best to not confuse them is to get the correct stuff and hand it to them. That way you know for sure and they don't have to get into anything they don't normally do.

Well, if I can't get the electrical fixed (see under troubleshooting), it won't really matter. I'll have to take the 09. But I am optimisitc..

Well,my boss' guy could not fix the electrical, so now I have it at my old mechanics shop. He sold his businees but still tinkers with classics and other stuff. He will look at the electrical issue, and replace my floorpans. And I will either have him or my boss' shop put on the 2.25" exhaust. He might have some 2.5" laying around, probably free. Will that make much of a difference???


Anyway, my itenerary changed. I will be going to Syracuse for a few days, then Toronto area for a day- day and a half. Picking up a "flyer' wheel I found on the Vortex. Would love to meet some of you guys (like Tyler,Giles, any others) and have a beer or 2.  Let me know.

Well, talk about reviving the dead. The trip in March was a no go due to starting a new part time job and not being able to take time off. However, working like a dog (like many here) I'm swapping tours to get 3-4 weeks off (one benefit to my job) and taking a leave from p/t job. After getting issues fixed at the TDI guru, the 89 runs f***ing great, just have to get used to the N/A again. Still have to modify the air intake for more air, should be done before trip.

Leaving about 10/25 to florida for my Mothers memorial mass in Stuart/PSL area. Heading north and west to Texas (Dallas and Tyler area), then to the Murrieta/Temecula area of California (side trip to TJ?). Up to Sacremento area to Marysville to see my niece stationed at Beall AFB. Zip across I-80 to Colorado and if open, challenge Pike's Peak.  Possibly stopping in the La Crosse, WI area, then Chicago. If I have time, maybe zip though Detroit and go home through Canada (just LOVE going up there). Maybe stop in Syracuse, then home and back to the daily grind.
I'll scroll back and see where some of you live, and would love to meet if ya got time.
