its called a proportining valve.. german only.. aka cabby/jetta thru 84.. 85 came a new design.. but used from 75-84 german cars.. the 85+ new are over 200 new.. the problem with used ones are if the fluid never gets changed they rust inside and get stuck.. some people bypass them.. wish i had better news for ya..
thanks guy, im going to get one off a MK2 at the junk yard soon. i just cant pay $150 for a new one.

My source for these states that they're the same, for all mk2s, all the way from 85 to 92 and also on the Passat.
abs vs non abs... 1 line in and 2 out... non abs has 2 lines in... mk2-3 are way different then mk1.. none of the lines or mounts points are the same..
