standard exhaust size?
« on: December 10, 2011, 07:06:03 pm »
My stock exhaust has rusted out on the first muffler (least i think thats what it is)..(the smaller muffler in front of the rear axle)...Seeing as its close to xmas and im already poor:) ...i am just thinking of getting a replacement piece of bendable pipe..and some u bolt clamps to effect a repair until i can take it in for a whole new exhaust. after xmas...

My plan is to cut out the first muffler and replace it with the bendy pipe (you know the pieces with the steel braided like section in the middle you can get from can tire....)...

Can someone tell me what size / diameter the stock pipe is on a 94' AAZ 1.9 turbodiesel jetta....

Thanks

Paul

1 3/4"? A measuring tape would tell you for sure what your car has, as it could have been changed since 1994..

Measure the circumference all the way around (use a piece of string and measure the length) and divide by 3.14, that should give you a close approximation for the outside diameter, then go find a pipe that has that as the inside diameter, to slip over the end of your exhaust pipe where you cut it.

It may be a cat, but iirc it should be a resonator, I think most of them came with one.

The AAZ cars all had a cat.  Mine rotted out last year, which at least let me to getting my exhaust upgraded.
