PNW peeps.. looking for a person to do a conversion...
« on: December 10, 2011, 12:53:46 pm »
i know a couple are from the PNW area who may be interested in a geo/chevy tracker gas to vw diesel conversion..

the issue..

me in ohio...

car in san fran cali..

owner.. he has some skillz.. but not enough to pull off a conversion on his own..

so i am looking to pass the work onto one of you who may be interested in the job..

he still has to buy the parts.. a engine.. so on.. but hell if you own a nice 1.6na or something this makes life better.. so hit me up.. let me know if you have any interest.. and i can pass info along..

i would be down to help, but san fran is a LOOOONG ways from the pacific north west..

i know all the adapters can be had from acme adapters, and all of it bolts right in..

might want to change your posting title to something other than PNW peeps.. cause like i say, southern/central cali is a LONG ways from the PNW.. unless the car is coming to oregon or washington..

I kind of think the PNW starts at the Klamath river. When you cross it, you feel like you're entering a different part of the country. It's hard to explain.

The bay area is well... the bay area. It's not really close to anything else. It's a full day of driving from San Fran to anywhere else like LA or Portland.

Anyway, if the car is registered in California, you might have some issues putting an older VW diesel into a newer car. It's actually illegal at the federal level to say, put the engine out of an '83 Rabbit into a '96 Suzuki, and California is one of the few states that tries to enforce this sort of thing, though I know people who have done it and got away with it.

R.O.R-2.0.... LOL.. your one of the few i wondered if you wanted too... he willing to drive it up.. fly home and wait for a call to pick it up even.. but i figure to ask forum as whole better then singling you out..  ;D

all i know is he gets silly idea that i wanna do it in his garage in san fran with lack of tools (cherrypicker, chop saw, tig)... so then i thought maybe make him meet me at wchlvr's place do it there.. but my getting to west coast is my issue.. LOL.. so better to find a diesel nut who wants to do it a oppertunity..

the biggest issue for me.. fab the exhaust/intake crap.. trusty welder life good.. lacking that stuff.. it sux.. and he lacks 220 in his garage..

ill have to ask him on engine ca regulations too... that may be his biggest issue.. but same token.. he will just have his dad ohio plate it and issue resolved too..

as far as PNW.. spelling of oregon is killing me.. LOL... just cannot seem to get it right.. so just said PNW.. but reality is.. anyone on the west coast can have a oppertunity.. i myself see a few.. talk to a few.. and its up to them if they are interested.. some people hate projects like this.. others.. well may hate it.. but same token wanna see one, drive one.. do one so they know what its about..  reality is.. if you do it.. there will always be someone else that says.. can you do mine??

ive built this kid a few cars over the years... got this oops truck, his blue bomber aka ford kubvan.. and such.. just its either ship the tracker to me.. or find someone there.. and IMO.. wasting money to ship is not worth it when there are people in oregon who can do it.. :D

IMO the hardest thing is a good engine... i cannot look at cars there.. and doing a full rebuild on a engine is also a sucky thing.. may as well buy a aaz or something at that point too..

I'd be all over this if I only had the workspace... hell, I even have a good ALH stashed away looking for a new home.

Oh man, this would be cool, just a bit too far away from me. Maybe if ROR does it, I'll try to drive down for 2 days or so and help out a bit  ;D

enough boost is when you have 3 dimple marks in the hood from the valve cover nuts..  ;D

well it died... LOL.. he was hoping to do this project.. but funds and cost have him to maybe monthly car payment better...

so his rust free autotragic tracker thing is up for idea of selling.. i guess cali will give him over 1k to crush it.. its got new tires and brakes and supposedly 99% rust free.. its  a hard top version also..

if anyone is interested.. i told him to contact r.o.r-2.0 about it first as he seems really interested in said project.. but a oppertunity is here...

so interest people let me know.. hate to see it crushed if someone desired it
