Air Dam Upgrade?

I have a 90 GL that has the "old" style air dam and trim.  I can get a complete set of trim from a 92 that has the one(?) piece air dam, rocker panel covers, bumpers etc.  Can all the trim from a 92 be fitted to a 90?  Will it all just bolt on, or are there mods needed?  I can't pull the parts off the car at the wrecker unless I buy them, and I don't want to do that if the upgrade requires any major modding.

i think the fenders are specific to the bumpers..

im not positive, but i dont think you can use little fenders with big bumpers..

Like the fender creases etc are specific to the shape of the bumpers?  hmmmmm.  I think you are right.  Oh well.  Thought it might be a simple upgrade.  I'll have to keep looking for that immaculate 92 with a blown engine.

I could be wrong but I think the issue with the fenders for big vs small bumpers is the mounting hole for the bumper clip. I don't think it is a huge issue. Zipties FTW

correct.. small bumper = 1 hole... big bumper has 2 hole per side... also the moldings down the doors are different too... aka different place.. and require HOLES to be drilled into door..

IMO euro bumpers... cleaner.. simpler..

Upon further examination of the two bumper styles, side by side, I am inclined to agree with you.  The small bumpers do have a much cleaner profile.  The one aspect of the 92 trim that I liked was the air dam and rocker panel covers, but tying it together with the existing trim is just as you say, way too much work for this old chassis.  Another aspect of the 92 air dam was what appears to be better protection for the belts and pulleys which get a lot of dirt and road spray on the 90 config.  I'll see if I can fab up a shield for that.  I have the entire front end apart right now.  Installing the sub-frame, control arms, front engine and rad support frames -- just about everything from the donor car, which had been recently replaced.

VW used to make a belly pan for these cars.. Rabbitmans 92 german 2dr golf has one..
