Sealing paste for oil spray nozzles. What is it?
« on: December 02, 2011, 01:54:42 pm »
Hi

I just got home for the weekend to assemble the bottom end of the engine, only to see I need some sort of sealer paste to install the oil spray jets or oil squirters as they are known.

The bentley lists AWV 188 100 102, which I cannot get hold of. What have other people being using? I have bought some new bolts from VW and have the red loctite to put on them.

Would Loctite Aviation Gasket Sealant be any good? It says temperature resistant to 400 F, but nothing about compatibility with oil. Its the brown stuff.

Its the only thing stopping me at the moment!! :(

i would not be afraid to use AV sealer. or even high temp RTV..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Yeah I think AV sealer would work well, have you used it before? Any other people used other stuff with good results?

I've used the red/copper RTV with good success.  My opinion only, make sure the hole is as clean as you can get it (I normally do this before pistons are installed on engine stand).  Do not over do it with the stuff.  Clearance between the hole and squirter is likely only .002-.005"

I would use Permatex thread sealant which you can get at NAPA, or just plain old RTV.

The aviation sealer doesn't ever really get hard, so I don't think it would seal a bolt that is subject to vibration. It's good for flat gaskets on these engines though.

I thought green Loctite would be the choice for this application.

"retaining loctite" It's what I used to use to hold drill bushings in place. Strong ***, as long the hold is reamed close to size.

Lock tite on the bolt and ultra grey,.. or I use ultra black to seal around the part sticking into the block.

I used red loctite 542 on the bolt holding the squirter in. Then aviation gasket sealer around the stem and part which enters the block. AV sealer is so sticky and does almost set I think so hopefully should be ok
