Wastegate initial setup?

Again with the final assembly of my 90 1.6 TD rebuild. On this k24 turbo it looked like the previous owner had messed with it substantially. The adjuster and locknut were missing when I pulled it. I installed a new adjuster set screw and nut, but need an initial setting for it. BTW, the turbine shaft side play seems about right (slight movement) and no discernible end play. Spins freely with no binding etc. Was actually fairly clean. I did a leak test on the valve and it seemed good, but I used some carb and choke cleaner to remove any deposits and put a touch of very light oil through the adjuster hole. Just need some sort of initial setting for the set screw.
Thanks!

I see some run
without
the wastegate working at all, so I guess it doesn't matter in my case. I am after mileage with reasonable power, so I want it tame. I'll give it about 2 turns from contact with the spring then dial it in from there.

IIRC I think the stud has around 7 threads showing when they haven't been messed with. I could be off, I think mine has 4 showing.

The much larger units on some of the tractors I am used to have about 2 turns from contact with the spring. I'll try the same and dial it in from there I guess. I was hoping to not have to crawl under the damned thing and fiddle once it is in. I am after a balanced mileage vs power thing anyway, so if I get 12 psi I'll be happy.
Thanks!

It should be interesting to see what can be gained by fiddling the spring pressure. Like I said, I am after fuel economy with this engine, and sometimes more horsepower and a gentle right foot makes for higher mileage. Maybe securing my 1/4 x 12" flex extension to the set screw will make adjustments easier? Should work. Once it is setup nicely I'll zoink down the locknut. Might make for a useful mod? Sometimes it's just plain fun to work on these cars!
Thanks for the idea!
