Tires,please help me
« on: February 04, 2006, 10:17:47 am »
Hi guys,

a week ago I got 4 new michelin 175/70 R13 energy tyres.

If I tell you what happened you won't even believe.
First I asked only the rear tyres to be changed.they wrote it down, but changed the front ones.ok,everyone makes mistakes, and all considerd they were all quite used.
So they lifted my Golf MK3 1.9td without first placing those soft blocks to support thr chassis on right place, result the little rail below chassis bent.
After discussing that they did still think being professionals...
Today,I see my rear tyre is flat:IT LEAKS!!!!!just where the valve comes out of the rim, between rubber of valve and steel of rim.
QUESTION:is this the common failure you can make mounting a tyre???
Or is it their fault??
Should I put up with this??????     What would you guys do?

Take it back and have them fix it properly. The guy should have cleaned the edge of the hole for the valve stem before he put the new stem in. - he did put new stems in didn't he????

If necessary he might have to use a bit of bead sealent around the stem to seal it properly.

he could just break the seal of the tire and replace the valve stem properly, 10 minute job...

Thanx for the reply bejay,

I guess the stem is the rubber lower part of the valve passing through the hole, is that right?
I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't cleaned it, considering the way of working before.
It's good to know though there are still guys like you who do know how things should be done, and help for free.Thanx  again!
