Delivery valve mods
« on: February 02, 2006, 02:57:17 pm »
Ok I did the vw governor swap on the "new" 4bt pump..i did the govenor mod too.... I am debating modding the delivery valves too..cutting them for more flow..I opened this pump up and checke dout teh cam plate i wrote th e#s down,,it is in the garage now I will post later but the ramps were pretty steep and tall.....any way I think I'm gonna keep the Longer Cuymmins DI delivery valves and i may cut tehm like my dodges laser cut ones..i have two sets of long DI cummins valves here so if its too much i will change it....I hope this pump provided the nut i need ..argh the outher pump just isn't doing it..mummn i wonder if its because i have IDI delivery valves on th mech tdi?..that might be the problem?..any how that pump is being changed out ..
any info or tips..? I did a search and the only Delivery valve sstuff was IDI guys trying DI  valves out etc...

i guess tell them the old engine was idi... your new one is a DI.. so you need the DI d- Valves and if they can make sure the Pressure is high.. as teh hybrid pump of mine ..well you saw it..it rocked ona idi..but doesn't do any thing with the TDI..i'm hoping the CUMMINS 4bt DI pump i just modified will work good...i hope.. i swapped th eother cummins pump top with teh fuel shut down lever..swapped the vw throttle sahft bushing and the vw throttle shaft and teh vw governor..i removed the intermediate shaft and shimmed it so it is solid there..then left the main spring alone but added a small washer unthe the main shaft retaining circlip so it preloaded th emain shaft a hair on its retainer...i hope that works good..i also swapped in my old fuel screw with the lock cut off , i used the thinest big fuel pin ..in fact the stock one from that pump was nice..i lowered the spring seat all the way down..used a thinner nylon washer, and a custom heated up and squeezed pin spring, i also swaped vw lda cover so its easy to set the fuel pin preload etc.. ..its set on kill right now besides the idle  and fuel screw..so if this  pump won't work  then i'm fit to be tyed...argh..i ground these d valves eal thina dn lapped them to there seats with valve grinding compound..so it should be sweet..

Yup. :)
Crap.  I was hoping that you'd get a chance to try out modified DV's with a VE pump...  If I didn't have to drive my TDI everyday, I'd hack the DV's in my VP-37 and then watch it stumble like a SOB like it does already...haha
