mk1 TDi swap, we're doin it for real this time.

Need some last minute pep talk. This weekend I will hopefully be commencing my tdi swap staurday evening, and finishing up Monday.
I will be retaining full electronics. Cluster, drive by wire, ECU, Intercooler, all the sensors for the motor, MAS, and the EGR setup. As I will not be running a Cat or exhaust of any kind I figure I should try and help out somewhat with emissions.. Not that it matters going in to an 84. Its in my name never needs to pass another certification or safety or e-test EVER. Score.
Hoodscoop, straight side pipe, and soot here we come!
Now the last two times I have pulled motor and trans from an mk1 I went out the top.. It wasn't too bad with a load leveler. I also did it once where I dropped the motor on to the ground and picked the car up over it.. Ill see how I feel when I'm about to pull it I suppose

However if any of you have any sort of tips or pointers that will help me out (been about a year since I have done a motor swap) or just little tidbits that you use to have a seamless time.
Other than the mounting of the IC and the extensions of the drive by wire sensor (so I can use the stock throttle cable and have it in the engine bay).

I wish you the best of luck! You'll do fine with the swap though timeline is rough! Is the potentiometer for the drive by wire waterproof? I considered it under the hood on my mk1 but ended up going with the mk4 pedal instead inside the car! I assume your keeping the later fuse panel and wiring back into car, i kept ce1 and really complicated the crap out of it and would never do it again!Lots of planning its doable!

Still only WEdnesday! lol Yes I have the alt pulley, gonna have to figure out a belt that will fit.. does anyone have a pt. # off hand from another swap? where they used only the alt, wp, and crank pulley? No ac. I took that off the motor as well as the power steering pump.
I hope to do this, but upon thinking if something goes awry I have no other form of transportation

Are you doing custom mounts? Keeping shift linkage or going with the cables?

Keeping the stock FF/FN 020. For now. I have all the stuff to do the 02A swap, but it will be too much right now.

Alright let's say I don't get it all done by the time I need the car back on the road.. Like I don't get the intercooler on but I need to make it to work tuesday.. It will run fine unintercooled yes? I'm sure it will as when it was in the 98 I actually forgot to clamp a boost hose, and had %100 boost leak but the car still ran.. It was slower than my 1.6 n/a.. But it ran and didn't even pop a CEL..
So I'm thinkin I might even just leave the intercooler to be installed at a later date.. To aid with the frustration of any cross-generation engine swap.

Yep will still run, not quite full power but run none the less. Intercooler takes some time, on my mk1 it took the second most time after engine was physically in! 1st was wiring but that was my fault!

I will be powering up the mk3 fusebox from the mk1 fusebox and running both in the car. Mk1 to handle body electrical, mk3 to handle motor electrical.
I have had it running on a stand since pulling it with all electricals hooked up, and everything was functional and responsive.

LMAO. Never ended up doing it. Life got in the way once again! JFC.
HOWEVER! Upon thinking the last few days.. I am going to build me a M-tdi pump, and do away with all the electronics of the swap all together. It will be just as much work to wire to car as it will be to build a pump. So what the hell. The idea of driving the 84 in the first place is for simplicity is it not? lol
If I can fuel the tdi up to 18psi from the k03 I should be making more power and torque then it would have stock with the Electronics anyhow.

the electronics can't be that bad
