Yeah, good link if you really meant to back up what I was saying, the franken motor is massively flawed as a concept. - look at the posters on that thread and their actual experiences....

nathan_b = SMOKE
vanagonturbo = SMOKE
theman53 = SMOKE

Others complain of excessive clatter.

I'm getting the feeling that the Franken engine is a case of the emperors new clothes.

I'm old enough to remember the old 'forum approved' GOV mod method and the problems it caused - but you mention it now and no-one will admit to giving the advice or singing it's praises. No one even admits to shimming out the intermediate spring, but lot's were doing it and everyone who did professed 'it runs great'  ::)

Sad thing is I don't even have a "franken" Mine is a 1.6l head like it is supposed to. When cold smokes like crazy. Even warm there is a bit of grey haze if you look close enough.

I'll take a video of my engines first start this weekend. Once with out the block heater and once with the block heater. Keep in mind that my pump has the idle-up/advance, so that helps a bit on first start.

It does smoke a bit but not as much as what you say yours does. Anyway, we'll find out.
