Cracked injector line
« on: February 02, 2006, 12:22:44 am »
I'm usually over on the IDI section for my crazy projects, but this is about my wifes '02 Jetta TDI commuter car.
Fuel milage has been slipping lately, and then it started to smell like a faulty oil furnace. I took off the plastic engine cover and there was a good bit of fuel on the front of the engine. When we started it up, there was a fine mist spraying from the cylinder #2 injection line. It seems there was a hairline crack right at the bend above the injector. The #2 line is the shortest of the four, so I guess it's the most suseptable to vibration?
I did a search on Fred's site, and they said that this is a common problem, and that a new line is about $110 from your friendly local VW stealer
I carefully MIG welded the crack and it's OK for now, but I would like to replace it, anybody know a good (cheap!) source?

Just in case anyone else needs one, I got a new injector line from PartsPlace in Michigan for $39.00.
Seems like a lot, but much better that the $110 I was quoted by my always helpful VW dealer  :x
