what causes window foggage?

On my 84.. As soon as I start the car, BAM windows fog up.. And slowly go away as the coolant builds heat.

Is this from a heater core leak?

You got it!  The excess moisture from the leak is getting vaporized into the air that is now blowing on the cold windows.  Then condensing out as fog.  As the heat goes up the problem goes away.  At least the window fog problem.  The leak in the heater is still there and getting worse all the time. 

Pull it and fix it before it is January and you really need the heater to be working properly.

I re read the OP and I just might have misdiagnosed this one.  Could it be that you place that mega grande latte on the dash then hit the key?  I think it is a heater leak but as we see others think differently.

Shyooooot, guess I'm replacing the friggan heater core! Good thing I got a good one in the parts car! I'll be able to experiment how to take it out too! lol

I wouldn't use one from a parts car. More than likely you'll just end up doing it over in January like I did, luckily I live in northern California so it was probably in the 40's-50's F.

Basically you just need to loosen the dash, disconnect all the ducts, wires etc from the heater box, pull a few bolts, push the dash up a few inches with your foot or back and wedge the heater box out. It's simple but not easy. It may be helpful to pull the seats, especially if you're any bigger than average.

if ac.. does the ac drain work?? if not that could be whole issue..

next core in ac car = real pain to change.. nothing simple about that...

Good think on the AC drain.  That is a big one on cars with AC.  People complain their cars smell old or musty when that happens.  Is an easy fix to do as the tubes can be cleaned from the bottom up.

ive driven and owned mk1s for 21 years... and yes 50% had ac.. so been there done that.. and no one asks.. LOL....

also IMO no mk1 heater core is easy.. non ac the go pedal in way.. ac box has to come out.. pretty much gotta drop them both.. but still no ac easy vs ac... just not simple..

for me on drain.. compressed air.. seperate at box.. blow down first.. then blow up.. that box will hold a good 2 gal of water.. till you go round a turn to get leg wet.. spills out lower heater duct..

windshield leaks, and bad heater cores are all i can think of. rear door seals of mk1 4 dr cars leaks sometimes..
