Which direction do they go back on? I tried to be very sure I put them back on as they came off but now its binding and won't turn when the bolts are only at 20ft.lbs.
Are we talking about a 1.6 here Eddy?
Oh sorry.1.9 aaz. Every time I even get the caps snug it binds up even just with 1 cap on. When I take the cap off the bearing isn't sitting evenly. The other bearing is flush in there and they say STD on them as they should.
I don't understand why this is happening.
The bearing shells each have a notch in them. Do these notches go on the same side as each other or opposite?

There's a spot in each cap for the notch to go, it should be rather obvious.......
Did you mark the caps for the right location? Or just need to turn them the right way?
Yes the notches are self explanatory. I meant which way do they go. Turns out the notches touch where as on rods I believe they are opposite.
the notch/detent in the bearings touch where they meet.. so... hope that helps.. cannot think of a better way to describe it..
the odd main bearing.. with groove all the way around.. got that in the right spot? putting that in wrong spot also does things like that..
Here is how things looked on my 1.6 when I took it apart. I see no logical reason that an AAZ would be any different, although it is possible. As you can see the timing belt is located on the left side. Note the location of the stamped numbers on the caps.
