If money's tight, I'd just hammer the surfaces flat, sand off any flaky bits, put in a new cup and reassemble.
theres no way i would do that unless the new cup fit tight in the head, and i bet it wont fit tight, being that the old cup was already loose in there for lots of miles..
if the cup dont fit right, it will do the same thing again in short order..
What can happen? Nothing, or you mark up your piston... The old cup was cracked wasn't it? 

Well I sucessfully swapped a brand new aaz head onto it but I managed to put a hole in the transmission from dropping a bolt into the clutch housing![]()

The good news is I made it home, the bad news is it leaked all the gear oil all over my driveway.

well, now your gonna need a new trans.. no fixing the old one.
