garret t3 rebuild questions
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:06:50 pm »
So I've just realized that besides a pump and some IC plumbing, I have all the parts needed here to get a TD setup going.

The block that came out of the car is torn apart, bored/decked and waiting for oil coolers (and a 1.9 head.) I bought a running engine/trans setup from a mk2 that ran good. I have to take the pump off to swap mounts anyway, why not take the time to add some power?

Now the final piece of the puzzle: the turbo.

I had a 300D 2.5, and it popped a headgasket at 421k. Wasn't clean enough to save. Saved the Garret T3 (with normal t3 flange) Problem is, the turbo looks like it has 421k on it, and needs more then just a bearing. Compressor wheel has missing fins (!) Anyplace sell a proper (maybe, an upgrade) complete center section? I have a place that can balance it and all that, I know they'll want a bit much for all that work.

lots of people seem to rave about "g-pop shop" being good for turbo rebuild kits and parts.

Nice site.

I think I'll be giving them a call. They even have staged upgrades for the compressor wheel   ;D

I purchased a rebuild kit for mine from ADP Turbos in Langley, British Columbia.
Had loads of parts most of which i couldnt use as my turbo was incredibly siezed together. But it's got all the parts. And i believe it was ... in the $100-$150 CAD range.

We had G-Pop Shop rebuild our T3. Went with the high performance rebuild. Very pleased with what they did. Turbo works great :)

What RPM do you see boost at?

What size hot/cold section? what A/R hot side?
