When changing the timing belt on an aaz...
To get the timing belt off I was reading that you are supposed to take off the one time use crank nut and the timing belt sprocket.
Why would you not just undo the 4 allen bolts holding the balancer to the sprocket and slip off the plastic then the belt?
Since I've pinned and loctited the crank sprocket now that is how I'll be doing it from now on but why not just do it that way? There is a pin hole reference mark even so you can put the balancer on the same as you took it off.

Thats what I do, No reason to take the crank sprocket bolt out unless you have too. It may be good check it to make sure its tight, but thats about it for how I see it.
Since AAZs have a tendency of exploding it's always a good idea to inspect the crank nose for wear. If you have corrected the problem then it's not as important.
I ran my aaz for 150,000 km from 131,000 to 282,000km, and changed the timing belt twice in that time. I didnt ever remove the crank sprocket and bolt because the sprocket always ran true, I never saw any movement there that shouldnt have been there. Yes, the aaz has a well known problem for messing up crank noses, but so too it is that people sometimes remove that sprocket with no reason when doing the timing belt (since the only reason you ever have to remove it, ever, is if the crank nose has failed or you need to change the oil seal behind it, or the main bearings) - and then cause problems by not replacing the bolt and not doing it up tight enough.
I say if its good, leave it well alone.
but thats just my humble opinion
