I need a trans for my AAZ.

I have a 5 speed. the code is CHD29092 . It came in a 1994 jetta Canadian. Hopefully someone has one near me. Help is appreciated. Thanks, I'm located in eastern Iowa now.

there are some parts cars listed on craigslist in IA. I used crazedlist to find them it's easier. what year/model is the engine in?

It's in a 91 jetta. If I use a gasser trans, what is a good one? I've heard of people doing it.

any mk2 gasser trans will work, I'd try for a wide ratio unit myself, some folks like the close ratio gti/gli/scirocco/cabriolet boxes. the only hassle will be changing out drive flanges if the new trans isn't the same size that you have now. go to www.scirocco.org and click on the "gears" link. there's a good chart on there with codes and gear sets. you can use a mk3 2.0 gasser trans too but the clutch disk is different than the AAZ one so if you get a mk3 trans make sure to get the clutch disk too.

No, reverse would probably work if I could get it  out of third!! I guess it is a relatively frequent problem. There is a write up on it on brokevw.com . Supposedly you cannot easily get it apart if it is stuck in gear, and I have tried everything to get it out of gear....A new trans is going to be the answer.

you gotta stick it in 2 gears to get it apart.. once shift selector is out.. then you can move 1or 2 to lock it in with 3rd to get the 5th gear bolt loose.. so i say wrong.. stuck in 3rd make it easy to get apart..

But how do you get the selector out? I removed all of the circlips and it will not come out without having it between gears. Besides, my tranny feels "growly" when I rotate it, so I'm thinking the parts needed to get it back on the road will not be worth it. Thanks

there are lots of good mk2 gasser trannies.. ACN is my favorite.. there are plenty of other long ratio trannies out there tho.

gotta use a 22mm hub clutch tho. and im not sure if your engine has a 22, or 24mm clutch hub.

Well I was planning on changing the clutch and pressure plate anyway. As loong as I change it to match it should work, shouldn't it? I thought that any of the 020 could run either clutch as long as the pressure plate was changed.

no.. the pressure plate and flywheel are universal..

its the clutch that needs to match the trans..

if its a 2.0 8v trans, 16v trans, or AAZ trans, it should be a 24mm big input shaft..

if its anything else, it should be a 22mm small input shaft..

say you used an old mk2 8v gasser trans, you would also have to use a clutch that is compatable with the 22mm main shaft.. all mk2 8v gassers had 210mm clutches AFAIk..
