Down pipe- have mk2 / need mk1
« on: August 07, 2011, 07:23:56 pm »

I have the pictured downpipe, from a mk2 turbo diesel. This part is in great condition, and is for sale.

I need the similar part, but for use on a mk1 rabbit.  Please let me know if you have one.

I would also like to find an intake/ air filter for a mk1.  Turbo I have is k14.

Please let me know if you need this downpipe, or if you have any of the parts I am looking for.

you guys ought to STFU and let him sell his part. there's nothing wrong with that pipe it will work fine for every day driving. Stop spoogin up peoples' threads...if you're not interested in buying or helping to sell the item don't post on the thread. I hope the mods take note of this.

Good luck at finding one. The original downpipes for the MK1 are rare.

To help you on your search, you should know that the part number begins with "171", rather than "191".

So, the advice to make your own is pretty sound. If you'd like to get your swap rolling, then think about making a custom one. Techtonics Tuning makes one, but it's a bit pricey at $300+

you can make that turd mk2 one work,

but you'll have to cut the support bracket off
and one of the holes the come down by the exhaust clips so your shift linkage doesn't hit it

i did it and its pretty close in 4th gear but it works

I have heard of other using a MK2 downpipe on a MK1 too.

My MK2 came with a MK1 turbo outpipe.
I don't see posting things like this in his ad are messing it up,.. not saying he's charging too much or his item is crap.
Just letting him know he can probably get by without trading for a much more difficult to find piece.
Building your own less restrictive pipe could provide the best result, might be easier than finding a MK1 pipe too.
Long ago I posted pics of my homemade 2.5" toilet bowl style turbo outlet pipe, the post might still be around..

Thanks for information.  I am hoping that I've got a lead now on the mk1 exhaust elbow I need.
Got a look at a mk1 jetta turbo diesel at a show this weekend.

I can see that the mk2 elbow is not going to play nice with the shift linkage.
In the end, I am hoping to find the stock parts to hopefully save on cost, and minimize the amount of down time to install the turbo.

As for the mk2 elbow I have, I forgot to put a price .  Call it $25 plus shipping or best offer.

No leads yet on the mk1 air box or hose between turbo and air box.  Looking for those parts as well.

i understand wanting stock parts.. when i built my b3 td i got the mk2 one and easily sold the mk1 i had... since then my mk2 one rusted a hole in it.. so will build a stanless one when i feel like it..

i also run this cast piece, u just gotta grind out the toilet bowl a good bit there where the shift linkage would hit, and we also slid the motor to the passenger side as far as we could.  u could also mod the shift linkage to make it not hit as well.
