I did the swap on my jetta and I thought all the calipers were the same on the solid rotor cars. Mine were a bit tight, but they went on. Maybe try a bigger hammer and let the extra burn off slowly while driving???
Ok I found some calipers off a solid rotor jetta to compare. The jetta ones are wider and fit over my rotor/pad setup . So vw did a weird thing and put solid rotor only calipers on my golf. I could use the jetta ones I found but they're well used already so I'm gonna price new ones.
we used to retro fit all the mk2 taxis that we were servicing so they would brakes that lasted more than a couple of weeks. discs and pads fit right in.the worse one we saw was 1 week, 11,000 kms, worn to the metal.

Seems like you'd have to way over brake to wear 'em that fast.
easy way:if they(the calipers) say vwII they will fit,if not, well, buy ones that say lol
