Intercooler for MK2 A/C car
« on: July 31, 2011, 05:34:35 pm »
I've been searching, but don't see any info on a good intercooler to use on an A/C MK2.  What are people out there using?

Intercooler: stock sourced from another car, or custom made?

Placement: in front of A/C condenser, behind a headlight, etc.?

Any info, pics, and specs are appreciated.

Thanks!

I want a/c again, but right now I don't have it. There is no way for it with my intercooler up there. I cut the core support down to fit my intercooler as is. I have a 28x7x2.5 inch universal fit. The way I think I am going to run the condenser again is to cut the rad mounts and move it back about 2" and reweld it. Then I need to make sure that there is room for the a/c compressor.
If that wouldn't do then I would probably end up hanging it under the bumper. Oh I have small bumpers too by the way.

There is a picture on the last page of this thread. http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=25440.45

I was able to source the intercooler from a SAAB in a junkyard for cheap. Top mount with a hole in the hood. ;D

Maybe you can find something that will work here:

The Saab 900s one fits behind the grill with no cutting (mount it upside down) without a/c.

With a/c, I think you might be able to fit a thin one below the radiator, above the valence panel.
