That Smell
« on: August 25, 2011, 01:34:21 pm »
This being my 1st diesel motor build, I tore down the bottom end last night and man what a god awful smell! The oil has been drained, the head off and the oil pan has been off for like 2 weeks now, I pull the pistons and crank and man the foul smell of oil is horrible.

Do all diesels smell this bad?

The engine under the hood is going to smell worse than the dead body in the trunk!

its just burnt oil and crap.. most engines stink when you start tearing them down..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

This one just seems to be worse than any other petrol motor I have rebuilt.

Strange.
