Do you think a 1.6 would pull one of those lil' teardrop campers? Just curious.
1.6 N/A? No chance in hell. It barely has enough power to get out of its own way on even the slightest inclines.. it would be unsafe. the most i'd tow would be under 500lbs
I towed a small 3.5X6 ish trailer with 2 complete 1.6TD engines in it.
Lots of smoke and lots of slowing down going up hills.
That was with just me in the car, anything more and you would really be asking for trouble.
Just thought I'd ask before I start getting wild ideas, thanks for the info. :-)

Turbo the sumbish and then your haulin'! Literally
I've hauled about 1300 lbs with my 1.9...it doesn't like it though. Ran hot and slow.
Turbo is the way to go...
I've hauled quite a few loads with my 1.6TD, only once have I had anything that was too heavy for the car and that was a fully loaded box trailer with a small apartment worth of stuff in it. Tried to do a hill start on one steep incline and kinda had to shave about a year off of my clutch to get her moving. I have particularly steep gearing in mine though.
When I've got a load on there, getting the car moving below turbo-spool RPM is basically a joke. She will barely accelerate until the boost starts coming on.
