what size connector is on our fuel injectors?
« on: July 25, 2011, 05:04:50 pm »
Anyhow, DIN 2353 is NOT correct

I am working on figuring it out.  I have between bubble flare 6mm tube, and DIN 7631 60* cone fitting.

Process of elimination would say DIN.

DIN 7631

Quote
You can read on, but the fitting, I am pretty sure, is a DIN 24 degree cone type L, AKA DIN 2353 and Metric Bite or Metric Compression. The threads are M12x1.5, 6mm Tube diameter

Here in the US this fitting is damn near impossible to find.

I think I found it available at http://www.discounthydraulichose.com found under metric compression, DIN 2353 L

9635-12-L06-04 is part number for Male DIN 2353 L M12x1.5 6mm tube to 1/4" Female NPTF  Showing a price of $7.40 on 27-Jul-2011
or
9635S-12-L06-04 same as above but includes washer and o-ring ??  for $3.85

This adapter is just a thread coupler.  It has no flare or seat adapter from one fitting to another.
I did find an adapter for the OTC professional mechanic pop testing tool.  This part number is OTC 23622.  I found it for $10 plus shipping from here: http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-23622.html

This is the best option I have found in the past 6 hours of online research.

Begin Original Post
They kind of look like some bubble flare.  I found that 1/2-20 threads fit on it, and just wondering if it is a JIC fitting, only thought is, why SAE fitting and not metric?

Any ideas so I can get the correct fitting for my pop tester?

Well I think its JIC, since that is identified as for high pressure hydraulic type stuff and one of the two that has 1/2-20 threads.

Thanks
-Eric

They do this on purpose!  The more they can make it so only "THEY" can service it.  That way us DIYers are forced to get creative or have them service the product.  That way they stay in business.

Alas they never figured the Internet into their business model.  Enter creative minds, search engines and cheap parts delivered without shipping.  We still get the job done.  In spite of all their efforts.

Now will someone give this query an honest answer?

To be honest I am really leaning towards JIC fittings.  If you google hydraulic fitting types only a few come up that are used.  What makes it even simpler is that to be economical VW had to use a fitting that was already designed, engineered, proven effective.  Identifying the threads on the fuel injector gave me an answer of 1/2-20.  JIC 37 degree flare and SAE 45 degree flare were the only ones that used the thread pitch of 20, all others were 1/2-14.  The JIC fittings were designed for high pressure use and the SAE 45 degree ones were not.  So I conclude *by process of elimination* that they are JIC.

It's been quite a while since I had to know this but as I recall the IDI ones are M12X1.5

The JIC may work but may not seal 100%. Best to find a used set of injector lines and cut it off.

You are correct sir, M12x1.5

Wonder what type of flare or seal it uses...

No idea what happened with the 1/2x20 fitting.  I didn't actually measure the threads I kinda just grab fittings and tried to screw them on and that one fit pretty well.

I think it is the DIN 24 degree cone then.

Must have been a man that invented that DIN 24...Female wouldn't have wanted the male fitting mating with all females  LOL

okay, the L series they claim is light pressure...  Their definition of light pressure is about 315 Bar

This company Gates has a nice chart on fitting ID

After a few hours of searching, I found this:

http://www.toolsource.com/adapter-diesel-nozzle-tester-15mm-female-p-63017.html

its a female M12x1.5 RH Thread to female 1/2-20 LH thread (assuming NPT) for $23

Then I google otc and part number and found this

http://www.mytoolsforyou.com/automotive-tools/OTC-23622.html $10 too bad they got me for $10 on shipping

This is the adapter used for the OTC brand pop tester which retails for $800

http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-23622.html - Last site here, same price for adapter, $10, but shipping is cheaper.

Too bad there's no pic of the adapter. It is probably in this pic of the kit.

http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-4201.html

Looks like the tube with fittings on both ends go between the tester and the adapters for various injectors.

I have an older version of that OTC pop tester I bought on Ebay for $100. It didn't come with any adapters so I made my own. The tester output has a 1/4 NPT female fitting. I cutoff an old injector line and silver soldered it to an old pressure gauge 1/4 NPT fitting, works like a charm.

1/2-20 is SAE fine IIRC 1/2" NPT should be around 14 threads per inch

The 1/2-20 on the adapters is likely a JIC and not NPT to allow for quick disconnect.

Yep. I haven't seen a JIC with a taper thread. All Fine threads as far as I know.

I find this fitting is also referred to as DIN 2353 Fitting and "Metric Bite"

discount hydraulic hose has these fittings for a fair price.
