OIL!
« on: July 19, 2011, 07:30:01 am »
I got this 1.6 on the stand and before I remove the head, I figure I would pull the drain plug. I have to say that after hundreds of oil changes, this is the blackest oil that I have ever seen in my life!

Do diesel motors normally get this dark?

It will be pitch black almost immediately after a change too ;)

There is a butt ton of soot in these motors, dark oil means its doing its job at suspending that soot in the oil.

There is an oil change thread in the General section that discussed oil and changes in great detail (along with some tire discussion), you should check it out.

Thanks guys, I'm new to the diesel world. I'll look for that thread too.

just ignore the pages of tire discussion.  You should check the link for the speed and RPMs though.  For those of us without a tach it is a good idea to know that at 65 in third I am about at the limit given the tires/trans combo I am running.
