I need a new cylinder head because mine has large cracks between each set of valves.
I was wanting to start a discussion on where ones could be obtained for a reasonable price and what others think about them or other buyers' experience with them.
I saw prothe one for sale on ebay and one of his various websites for a decent price. My concern there would be quality, although I think it is priced well for a bare head (which is all I need)
Quality German Parts someone on here said they got one for ~650 with all parts.
Parts Place Inc has them for 899 complete.
I would go with a used one, but it seems that they will have cracks as well and its not money well spent.

they all have cracks, the only one I've ever seen uncracked was a new one.
From what my machinist tells me you don't need to worry about cracks between valves. He said they USUALLY only get so big and stop. He also said if I was real worried I could pay him to weld or peen them shut and recut the seats. I didn't and mine is fine so far.
I got one crack I can fit my finger nail into

So that makes it like 1mm wide crack. The other 3 aren't as bad.
There is a spec around here for the size the crack is aloud to be.. Most aren't a concern though.
Also fun fact, my 325k km 1.6 '91 na didn't have the cracks at all between the valves.. Weird.
I believe I could get my thumbnail in all of them. They were wide but not real deep. You can peen or weld and recut if it is that big of concern for you. Might be cheaper than a new head.

if you can fit a penny in the cracks, there too big..
Somewere on here is a picture of a cut head showing where that crack goes, the wider it gets the deeper it gets and eventually it hits coolant.
