diesel 1.9l head gasket on 1.6l td
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:38:10 am »
i have a 1.6l td engine. the block is all machined and assembled - pistons, rings and crank installed. head is machined and assembled.
the head has not been installed on the block yet.
ive read on threads that a 1.9l AAZ engine head gasket can be installed in place of a standard 1.6l head gasket.
the 1.9l head gasket is stronger - metal?
i have no specs on what to use or how to do it.
i sent the IP to Giles at performance diesel injection. he recommended using a 1.9l head gasket because it is stronger.
he told me to use the same specs as the original 1.6l head gasket - torque spec and the OEM type stretch bolts on the head.
he said it was a Felpro 1.9l AAZ head gasket.
can anyone verify exactly what i need to do>
which gasket exactly do i use?
any other specific installation instruction?
or is it that simple?

thanks
jon

what engine do you have? hydraulic or solid lifter?

hydro engines, the gasket is a direct swap.. solid lifter engines, not so much, you have to modify some things..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.
