flashing glow plug light ???
« on: July 06, 2011, 04:56:57 pm »
I changed the transmission in my Mk 1 Caddy today. Now, the glow plug light flashes eratically while driving. It started out very rarely, but is now doing it quite a bit.
Any ideas ?

How about the ground strap between the battery and the frame and then the one to the engine and or transmission?  That is the only thing I can think of.  Leaving the wire off the sensor does different things.

It was the ground alright. The new transmission was all nicely painted and this must have insulated the ground. We moved the ground to the engine block this morning, and no more problems. The voltage gauge on the dash even reads a volt higher... ;D

Good Deal,  Seems like VW's have a blinking light warning system the engineers never designed.  When things like this happen the code should always be check grounds.  If they only knew.
