An 020 will work on your engine no problem. Some mk3 had 020 and some had 02a. 02a is the cable shift type. Either one will bolt into a mk2 or mk3. You may need to swap flanges. Mk3 tdi's had the 02a while the AAZ-equipped mk3's had the 020.

Mk3 tdi's had the 02a while the AAZ-equipped mk3's had the 020.i told him most 020s wont work because of the different 22mm main shaft.. he needs one with a 24mm main shaft..the mk3, and 16v cars were the only ones that got big main shaft trannies. and the 16v boxes have less than desireable ratios..he wont need a flange swap, all the big shaft trannies got 100mm inners..
