Identify vacuum/pressure line 86 jetta

I was inspecting my jetta motor before a trip and noticed that there was a vacuum/pressure line that goes from the intake area to the fuel injection pump that had popped off the intake side. I replaced it. The engine doesn't seem to run any different.

Does anyone know what it does?

I have been getting 50 mpg.

It is your aneroid line.  It's role is to hold off full fueling until the turbo spins up, reducing smoke output.  If it is disconnected you will have less power at full boost, but it won't hurt anything.

Now that you have it connected you may notice a bit more push from the car at full throttle!

I was reading the FAQ stuff and a lot of the terminology is fairly greek. Much to learn.

I have had my car almost a year. It has 250,000 on it and I believe that the motor was rebuilt not too many miles before I bought it.
