Center Console holes
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:23:43 am »
Forgive me, I'm at work right now, or I'd look it up myself. What size are the gauge holes on the center console? Standard 2" gauges fit? HF has a 3 gauge set for $19.

2" it is.  So this is what people do "at work" these days.  Glad I still have an outdoor day job and get computer use at night.

I agree. I think most office jockeys screw around on FB and youtube rather than random diesel boards but who knows?

so what three items are you looking to monitor with the 3 gauge set?  I salvaged a Temp and volt gauge in a center console out of a Caddy and added a couple of pressure and an amp gauge.  Plenty of information now as I drive.  Funny how little things like real numbers at speed can get you thinking of what is right, wrong or could be different.

it was a volt, water temp, and oil pressure gauge set. Looks like I can unbolt them from the old mounts and mount them to my center console. I also found a 2" tach, but I don't think my alternator has a W plug

I think I am going with a Tiny Tach for the diesel on mine.  Just easy to do as I don't have that W output either.  I don't have any problems with the current alternator so am not thinking replace that with one that has the W then find a tach.  Tinys are about 100 bucks though.  About as much and changing the other components out to get the same information.

tiny tach works off the W signal still tho..

or are you going to get one that clamps on the injection pipe? i dont think they make the right size sender for our cars hard lines..

Looking at the clamp on model.  It comes in both the 6 and 7 mm clamp types.  I think we go with the 6 but I haven't actually measured it yet.  Anyone know off hand?

6mm it is, I've been using one for the last 4 years and it's been great except that it looses it's memory rendering it useless and has to be reset often.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

If yours is that old you should contact them with the problem and see what they can do for you to get the upgraded model that came out a while back.  It runs off a different system and not prone to that trouble from what I have read.

A little whining and praise for their product and a rep might just upgrade you to a better piece of equipment.  Try it and let us know what they said.  It has worked for me in the past.  You could even mention this forum.  Well not now because they could search on the words and see what I am proposing here and shut you down on that.
