Removing altitude compensator from injector pump
« on: June 16, 2011, 10:40:52 pm »
I've got a good N/A pump with an altitude compensator on it. I plan to use it on a 1.6D I just built, but would like to save the altitude compensator for use on a future turbo car.
I have a few parts pumps sitting around that I could grab the top cover off of. What else would I need from the regular n/a pump? Is the governor assembly different?

Thanks!

I would imagine that you would need to use a whole non-compensating pump.  This is because the alt-comp. pump wont have the internal throttle stop pin that a standard NA pump has.  I would just rebuild/reseal one of your NA parts pumps for the NA and use the whole alt-comp. pump on the turbo engine.  Those are my pennies.

Are you referring to the pin that protrudes from the side of the case just below the top cover? If need be, I could tap the side of the case and thread a small bolt with a copper washer in where the pin would go.

Both parts pumps sat for years and have significant corrosion in the lower portion  :(

Well, no go there.  I do have 2 pumps though, one is in pieces, one is all done up.  The one in pieces needs cleaning and new seals.  The done up one has gov. mod, throttle spline mod, and new seals.

The one in pieces is fine, the rubber bumpers for the governor disintegrated in it, thats all.  If you want it, pay shipping from 13601.

I apologize for not getting back to you on your offer. I'm going to try to make it work with what I've got but will let you know if plans change.

If I were to use the pump with the altitude compensator, could I just leave the compensator on and run it as is? Am I correct in thinking it will behave like a normal N/A pump without the altitude compensator hooked up?

Why cant you just put the n/a top on the pump? If the pump was originally N/a itself.. I don't see the issue?

I currently have a TD pump, that has the n/a pump top on it on my 1.6 n/a. All I did was take the throttle off, and undid the four allen bolts. Took the cap off, checked each governor.. There is specific throttle linkage/governor cage between pumps. The TD one and NA one are different and will not interchange.

I dont see why you cant use the pump you have, with an n/a top and governor.

The altitude comp InjPump will work just fine (as like Std NA InjPump) with the gizmo defeated (cap the vacuum connection). And don't connect any power source to the solenoid on the outer side (radiator side) of the pump.

Much simpler than swapping tops etc...

All 4 local Jetta's that i know of with the AltComp InjPump from factory - have all the exterior gizmos defeated / disconnected.

The problem you "might" have will be the injector hard lines that go from the InjPump to the Injectors - not mating up at the Injectors.

But if you have the corresponding hard lines from the original AltComp InjPump set-up ... that would take care of it.
