Mk II rain gutters, anyone?
« on: June 10, 2011, 09:18:59 am »
Found a source of new OE VW MKII four door rain gutters. Apparently, they're fairly easy to trim to fit 2 door. New from the dealership, when they were still available, they were $380 EACH. I'm still working on details, but it's looking like i'll be able to get them for around $140 each, give or take a little.  ;D
Now i just need to figure out if there is any demand for these.
Anyone interested?

Update:
So I've been 'set straight' over on poortex. Golf II rain gutters are longer than jetta.
I'm trying to see if I can sniff out the factory that makes these to try and get them to make golf versions. For that matter, I could probably have them make proper 2 and 4 door units for both golf and jetta individually, saving any trimming. If i could get detailed measurements from y'all for each of jetta 2 door, and golf 2 & 4 door then I'll be able to proceed. To avoid any confusion arising from terminology, anyone taking on this measuring task please take a side view picture of the gutter, and run a tape measure from the front end (near hood) up and over the bend, then all the way to the back end. Stick it in microsoft paint or whatever program and label the picture with the overall length measurement, how long the horizontal part is, details of the location(s)/length(s) of the felt window seal(s) and a closeup shot of the rear end as golf and jetta differ.
With this info, and a little luck with the sleuthing, I should be able to provide all the proper gutters for each model. From there, i'll look into things like window and door seals. I think I just found a connection for cheap parts like coolant flanges etc, not that they're terribly expensive, but you know... every buck you save on boring parts is a buck you can put into a bigger turbo or fuel to feed the damn thing.  ;D

I wanted to vote I like noodles and sauce...but I would as soon as I am able. I also would like that 1.9 head that I should have bought with those engines...oh well. I need basically all the rubber in the glass area as well.

OMFG, WANT!!!

If you said you had them right now I would be sending you the money tonight. I'm not going to say "money is no object" but I do need a set.

I painted my car recently and the old ones crumbled and I can't find any replacements that are in a better condition. The car looks funny without them and water is getting inside.

Ironically I find good 2 door pieces at the junkyard all the time but the 4 door ones are always cracked in a million places.

If you could find OEM style for the Jetta Coupe and 2-door Golf GTI, you'd be set for life. A new WTB thread for the coupe gutters comes up every 2-3 weeks on the Poortex.

Well, at least you were kind on your term of reference for that "other" forum  ;D I'm not so kind  :-X When I get around to doing the Jetta I'll be on you for a set. BTW; I agree the person/vendor on that forum is incredibly secretive where he gets them. Ever thought of checking in with the Chinese government? I believe they have our version of the Business Dev Bank in Hong Kong...

I had assumed they were an OEM part from FAW (Chinese vehicle manufacturer that continues to produce the MK2 Jetta) and that they were sourced from the regular parts distribution system that FAW would have in China.
