How much different are AAZ and MF pumps.

I am looking at possibly getting an AAZ to swap in place of my 1.6 n/a in my 84, as I miss the joyous laughter that comes from boost. LoL
And I think the only thing I am not entirely sure about is the aaz pump, I have never personally seen one nor have I worked on one. Will it bolt up to the Mk1 1.6 diesel passenger mount that holds the pump? I know the mount will physically fit the engine, but will the pump fit the mount?
Other than that, I think the downpipe is the only other brain tease. I've got ALL other diesel engine swap related crap down to a frikken T.
Also is there any particular years to look out for? reagarding turbo's? Or did all AAZ's get the same equipment? and what turbo what that be?

an AAZ in a light mk1 or mk2, would not take much power to over take a bloated mk4.. what do you weigh, almost 3k lbs?

Truth, but Catlin and Guillaume have pretty heavily modified TDI's. Catlin's pulls from idle to redline, and will easily and quickly bury the speedo and keep going..!
HOWEVER! I do agree alot less HP and TQ in an mk1 will be the same.
So my question still stands, will the 1.9 pump fit on the 1.6 bracket? Better yet, Can I use the 1.6 TD pump I have? I hear they are more tun-able.

i know those guys are NOT running stock cars.. i wasnt talking about them in particular, just in general.. mk1 and mk2 cars are WAY lighter is all..
think of how nuts it would be to have a mk2 gti and a fire breathing ALH in it?

(yes jeremy, the pumps bolt up the same, but the AAZ pump/lines/injectors are all specific. to get everything to fit like factory, you have to use the matching pump, lines, and injectors)

So i would need to use 1.6 pump, lines and injectors if i wanted to use the 1.6 setup.. Would it matter between n/a and turbo injectors?
I agree it would be awesome with a fire breathing TDI. I still might just swap my tdi in my 84 if I dont get this AAZ...

you might even be able to use the short AAZ injectors, but im not positive..
i would use the 155bar TD injectors. well, let me correct myself, i would use the ones in best shape..
but the 155bar injectors atomize fuel a little better under boost..

Ahh yes, well unfortunately I do not have 155bar td injectors

lol
So I guess full 1.9 fueling setup it is, with the 1.6 td pin then.. OR JUST GROW A PAIR AND MAKE WAY MORE POWER WITH MY AHU... Hmmm

I don't have an AAZ pump on hand to compare, but I seem to recall the AAZ has a different spacing on the sprocket compared to a 1.6 pump. I'm not sure the sprocket would line up properly with the timing belt. Don't quote me on that but definitely check it out beforehand if you can.

If you have all the 1.6 stuff now, use it. You will definitely have a running engine, and more than enough fuel to push your car around. Remember a lot of the AAZ injector design is just to reduce noise / help emissions.
The 1.9 pump does have a better cam plate so it does have more power potential. But if you are going to try to chase down a new pump then you might as well just send your 1.6 pump to Giles!! You'll get back the best possible pump for what you have.

I have the 1.6 TD pump right now with a N/a top on it right now in my 84. I have the TD top and the td injector lines but no td injectors..
I figure I will put my time and money towards getting my TDI in my 84

its gonna be quiiick.
