Has anyone uses an aftermarket fuel level gauge? I have one as I was sick of my speedo not reading I replaced all the gauges to aftermarket ones and they work perfectly except I don't know how to wire in the fuel level and autometer doesn't seem to be helping much. There are two wires and a reading between the two gives the correct ohms. The purple one is supposed to go to the gauge, where does the other one go? (MK3 Golf 96, was originally a gas car). I need help, cause one of these days I'm going to be out of fuel!
Just a note I found out from Autometer if your changing to a programmable gauge or some other - the ohm range of a MK3(96 gas golf 1.8l originally) full empty is 60 ohm and full is 546 ohm. Out of the range of the gauge I bought so I have to buy a fuel level unit with sender (in this case autometer). I just thought I'd post this. It's a bit of a scam if you ask me...
just an update - bought a 3262 fuel sender and put it in the tank. Still not reading correctly. Autometer wants me to pull both the gauge and sending unit to them for testing. I have not had good luck with autometer gauges as of late. I will update this once things are fixed. 3262 sender uses 240 ohms empty and 30 full. I had to remove the gas tank fuel pump and put and external one in place to use this fuel level sender. Just to anyone with a MK3 gasser changed to diesel. Not a nice job!
