1.9TD AAZ with 1.6TD head and pump or not?
« on: May 12, 2011, 07:10:09 am »
Hi,
I’ve recently swapped my 1.6td engine with an 1.9AAZ,
Governor mod.
2.5" downpipe and exhaust
intercooler
t3 turbo with blocked wastegate

All fine until I damaged my pump (one of the leavers broke and fell in when engine whas running)

I still have the good pump and head from the 1.6TD
Questions:
Is it wise to use the 1.6TD head? (i noticed slightly wider inlet channels which perhaps could be beneficial)
Is it wise/possible to use the 1.6TD pump?

thanks
Jurek

the AAZ head is LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER than the 1.6 head. so dont even try and swap it out unless the point of swapping it is less power..

you can use the 1.6 pump on the AAZ, but your going to have to bend your aaz lines to fit the 1.6 pump..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

As long as the 1.6 head has hydraulic lifters it is a bolt on and you shouldn't experience any difficulties. Depending on the year of your AAZ you may need to buy a new timing belt tensioner.  Yes it doesn't flow as well and will raise your compression ratio but it's nothing to be concerned with on a daily driver.

i think he wants to use the 1.6 head as a performance improvement.. and thats just not going to happen.

got myself another AAZ pump and will keep the existing head.

while i got my engine out are there any other things worth having a look at performance wise?
again:
2.5 downpipe
intercooler,
governor mod
t3 turbo
