Hi Everyone!
I've read over a few of the topics posted in the past on this subject, but I haven't come up with some clear answers to go forward with this project. I'd like to add cruise control to my 85 Jetta 1.6 NA, which has the original CE1 wiring setup. Is there any easy way to pull this off while using a stock turn signal stalk with the cruise button on it? I'd prefer to not have an aftermarket controller on my dash if possible.
Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
No reason why you couldn't get all the parts from a donor- control unit, speed pickup [behind speedo] , brake and clutch switches, pump vacuum canister and rod ,control switch, vacuum hoses and wiring. It be easiest if you have the donor besides you to install it all properly . Oh and a bentley to troubleshoot. The vacuum brake and clutch switches have to be adjusted properly
and you get the parts from a gasser .The only difference is where the vacuum canister mounts [throttle/IP]
I didn't even think about that. I figured stock parts wouldn't be worth it at this point based on my assumption that they would be worn out, non-functional, etc. I haven't had much luck locating a car whose cruise control system around is still intact around here. Perhaps it is something I can piece together.
You could post a WTB in the classifieds. That way you may even get a diesel setup. Most of the time the failures were the vacuum hoses wearing out and sometimes the control unit. There is a troubleshooting guide available, but if you can't find it i can send you the info to trouble shoot if and when you get it all installed
I have some of the parts but I have no idea what failed because it was already inop when I got the car. That's the hard part, paying good money for parts that may or may not work.
My thoughts exactly. I guess that would be more parts to add to the list of parts I need for the car, ha ha. Thanks for the info!
