IP Shaft Seals
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:25:42 pm »
Does anyone know where I can buy the pump shaft seal for Bosch IPs without having to buy the entire seal kit? Failing that a number for the seal so I can attempt to source it locally.

I get all my seals from this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-Diesel-VE-Injection-Pump-DGK126-Kit-w-VITON-Seal-/260770356802?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb71fde42

He will sale you any seal you want.

Just got2 complete seal kits from him. Or, call your local bosch shop. Here is the part number for the 17mm seal:

146601-0900 it's a Zexel number (made in Japan).

The Zexel front seals aren't bad.
But i like the Bosch seal much better.

Sam "might" have the 17mm Bosch seals if you specifically request.
Zexel is around $5
Bosch is about $10

What is better about the Bosch seal? I thought the Zexel seal was Viton. The Zexel was $5, the Bosch seal is $18 from my local Bosch dealer.

They are made different.

The Zexel is made like a conventional rear wheel bearing grease seal. I think its basically an economy supercede part that will work.
And its Black rubber - kinda sorta doubt its Viton. .. but idunno for sure.

The Bosch German seal is brown.
Definitely Viton or equivalent.
More polished in design/manufacture.
Like it would seal the hydraulics of a bulldozer.

Not bashing the Zexel (i have one in use) - but if the Brown Bosch can be had for $4-5 extra - i'd go that route at every opportunity.
My local bosch fuel shop was tempo out of stock last time i was in dire need - so went Zexel.

But my price is somewhere around $8-10 at my dealer.
Sam gets $4-5 for Zexel - have not priced him on the German Bosch.

I'll try to get a couple pictures of a Brown Bosch seal posted up in next few days. I have one on hand now.

Bosch Germany part # 1 460 283 312

Zexel/Bosch Tokyo # 9 461 614 046

If Sam has the Brown German seals on hand - i'm sure he would upgrade a "kit". The Zexel seal he supplies in the cost - is not sealed inside the kit. Its an add-on.

Places like greaseworks etc... charge around $20+ for the Brown Bosch.

Your local bosch shop quoted you full retail i guess.
So you're kinda doomed there.
Maybe someone can price one through Sam.
He is very reasonable.

I get Bosch kits for Std N/A pumps $12-13, front seal under $10.
For example.
But its a 70 mile roundtrip to Gboro.
Sometimes its more cost effective to have stuff shipped from Sam if i have no other needs in Gboro.
