A lot of the late MK2 gassers had 100mm flanges. I think the following had 100mm flanges: AUG, ACL, ACD, AON.
A lot of those codes did not appear in NA, so, they might not apply. I know that ACL and AUG were available in the USA.
Just measure and check. You can either swap the inner CV joints (easy), or swap the flanges (a bit harder and requires you to make/purchase a special tool).

what trans did you take out of the car? cant make a final answer about flanges till we know what the car HAD in it..
9A, 2Y, ACD, AGB, ACL, AON, and AUG got 100mm flanges..
if your car still had the stock trans, it SHOULD have an AUG and it had 100mm flanges.
FWIW, being that your car is a gasser, and a 1990, im going to say that it DOES have 100mm axle flanges..

Flanges are the easy part, they can be swapped between the two tran's pretty easy. The 7a may not have the mount locations on the final drive housing for the rear trans mount- seems to be some conflicting info on that. BrokeVW's chart basically says 7a won't have the mount locations but a few folks say it may. On the 90-100mm flanges you can swap the flanges pretty easy between them with a homemade preload compressor(flat bar with hole and bolt)!

Yep. Just a circlip and no special tools and the BS of tensioning the flanges. If you pull them, you'll need to replace the seals back there. But then again, it's a good idea to replace them.

no.
under 100hp = 90mm
over 100hp = 100mm
late eco diesel jettas have 90mm axles.. and they didnt even come out till after 87..
and my 85 GTI, 100mm axles stock..

I checked it out and it'll fit but when I undid the pass. side CV shaft a bunch of gear oil leaked out.

So looks like i'll be taking those flanges off anyway.

Oh well at least it fits.

why do you have to pop the flanges off to replace that plug? its right under the axle, in the center of the drive flange.. super easy to replace. no need to take the flange off.. unless you are going that rout to make things fit.
what year is the 7A?
*edit, i just checked, its a 1983 trans, it should have the conical washers and springs and stuff.. if you do a flange swap, the AUG flanges should fit right on there*

Oh I didnt' know you could just replace the plug. I thought there was more to the process. I'd much rather just replace the plug. Slap on the 90mm axles I have and call it good. I really don't want to mess with this to much. I can't really take my car off the road for more than two days. In a month or so I'm going to be installing the turbo onto this car anyway so I may as well just save the 100mm flanges and if and when I put on the turbo I'll swap those onto the 7A if i'm feeling up to it.

90mm flanges and axles are just fine unless you are going to be building 250hp or so

and at that point, you would want a different style transmixer.. the trans is the weak point, not the acles or CV joints (unless they are worn clear out)

Anyway I got the tranny out of the other car today. Tomorrow I'll start cleaning it and touching it and examining it
until it grows up to be a serial killer and getting it ready to be put into the MKII. Blah. One project after another.
