I have an 82 Westy running a 1.9AAZ TD
The transmission is a DK
Just purchased 4, 215 x 16" rims from Go-westy
I am looking to install some high load rated tires and am thinking to go with 215/185/16s
This will bring the RPMs to 3000 at 65 MPH
Does anyone know if these taller tires will fit without rubbing?
Thanks
I had 215/65/16's with no clearance issue,But i had a transporter, with a bare interior. No heavy westy MDF cabinets, stove, heavy foam mattress's etc.
The Caveman,
Thanks for the reply.
I ended up with 215/7016s with a load rating of 1700+ per tire.
They barely fit but my RPM range is perfect - around 3K at 65 MPH with a DK 4 speed transmission.
If I were to hit a sharp bump at full turn and high speed, they might rub but all is sweet.
The 7 1/2" wide rims I purchased from Go Westy.com look great and really are made for a 225 tire width but I think if they were 225's they would rub a bit.
For the record, this is a full camper and could probably have the torsion bars in the rear moved a notch as the tires are slightly leaning in on the top.
As it is, this is the largest tire I could have installed.
Thanks again.
Thanks again for the feedback
A little high as you said, but a nice rpm/speed combo. As long as you still have enough power to pass etc.
